"Factory orders down 2.4% in June

WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- Demand for new factory goods fell by 2.4 percent in June, reflecting weakness in most durable goods, the Commerce Department said Friday.

The report revises and extends data on the durable goods sector released last week. Orders for durables fell 4.1 percent, rather than the 3.8 percent originally reported. Orders for nondurables fell 0.4 percent. Read the full report.

Orders for core capital goods (nondefense, nonaircraft capital goods) fell 5.8 percent in June, erasing the gains in the two previous months.
