Yes, that seems to be it in a nutshell. I'm glad to know that you definitely have them. ;-)

I don't know how to tell which people do or don't, or what to do about those who don't. There may be an analogy here with respect to welfare programs, which have taken on the mantle of a right or entitlement. In "the good old days," they had the mantle of a shame, as in "She's too proud to accept welfare."

The question is, which cultural aura is better for society ... which is better for individuals?
