Inflation as you know is a measure of all your spending in a year. From cloths, food, to cars, gas, electronics, computers etc... My spending (I have been tracking all my receipts in Quicken for the last 6 years) has actually gone down during the last 2 years. Not because of my patterns but because of costs. Your mileage may vary. I'm in the Vegas area.
