Ray's statement shows total arrogance and wantabe eliteism in his thoughts. If a person were young in the 1960?s, he/she was probably born from about 1935-1950 or so. For someone so young, he/she must have been getting info from either our government or from a foreign government, determined to undermine the USA.
I was alive then too, a productive member of society, a young mother, and utterly agast at what some of the groups like the Weathermen, etc were doing to undermine this country.
From Ray's statement, it would appear he and his groups would like to overthrow our government. Let us all hope that this is a wrong assumption. Thugs are Thugs are Thugs!
Ray says in part:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> They were laser-honed to specific issues.
The complete revulsion that many of us felt to the lies of the Johnson and Nixon Administration about our evil, immoral and illegal war in Viet Nam.
We weren't cowed in corners by the lies of that age about the threat of nuclear annihilation.
We had very specific goals and agendas we were working on.
Just as it is today, that there are some who labor mightily for the environment, for women's rights, or in the case of people like me, a total hatred of the militarization of our society for the sake of a handful of criminal profiteers. We are very specific in our goals. And have been for many decades.
You also mischaracterize us saying that we "didn't seem to care about anything, including their own health, and lives"
We cared deeply about our futures, and about the nation that we were brought up to respect as a lawful entity that seemed to be becoming a rogue state and a ruthless viper.
We cared deeply about the horrifying future that lay ahead with the ascendancy of some jar-headed militarists taking over the country.
We feared that all that we had come to cherish in this great nation was going to be stolen from us by a brutish band of police state thugs.
We cared deeply about our lives and those of our children.
That's why we fought then. That's why we fight today, for justice, truth, honesty and the end of Bush's mad greed.
