My uncle worked in the merchant marines in WW II carrying "Lend-Lease" equipment and foodstuffs from New York to Murmansk. We did indeed support the USSR during WW II. To the extent that we prevented the collapse of the Soviet Union, which would have sealed Britain's fate. We did not support them to the extent that we might have, if the goal was a quick end to war, reduction of bloodshed and peace. Our goal was more cynical, the "correct" re-ordering of the post-war world to accommodate the imperial goals of the U.S. and UK governments to the greatest extent possible.
