The real question is whether or not we are about to alienate a large part of the world's population and assure ourselves of a bitter, suicidal enemy for the next fifty years. Enough people there hate us now and it is causing us large problems. This could tip the balance and make it impossible to fix it after the fact. We have a great military. But we get an F for diplomacy, and right now we need to figure out how to get an A. Half a century of war and terrorism will cost us more than any of us can imagine.
