...His (Hitler's) air force couldn't even defeat the British, and that was before the USSR or the USA got directly involved.

The Luftwaffe could well have defeated the RAF had HItler maintained his focus on Britain and kept to his original strategy of picking off one country at a time. Instead, he let himself be distracted by what Stalin was doing in Eastern Europe, and decided to attack the Soviet Union earlier that he had originally planned. (He also let himself be distracted by an uprising in Yugoslavia (I think) enroute to Russia, thereby wasting a month and practically guaranteeing that his troops would not have enough time to finish the job in Russia before the cold weather set in.) If Hitler had defeated Britain, he would probably have come to some kind of arrangement with Stalin but they would have been at each other's throats before long. The US did have the production capabilities to defeat HItler, but when do you think we would have declared war on him, if he hadn't been stupid enough to tell the Japanese that he would come in with them if they attacked us? When Britain was defeated? Yes, I think Hitler would have eventually "lost" but I shudder to think what would have happened in the meantime.
