Our Friends the Bees: A few years ago I was shopping at Rite-Aid, and as I shopped I idly listened to the radio broadcast playing over the intercom. A friendly voice informed us all that if we did not wish to attract bees while out and about, we shouldn't use perfume, and ought to give thought to a non-scented shampoo. Okay, fine, we knew that. But then the voice said: Avoid wearing clothing with pictures of food on it.

I was stunned. Is there any proof at all that bees take interest in, say, a t-shirt with a photo of a hamburger on it? A more vexed question: what about drawings? Would a rough sketch of a peach engage them as well?

Frankly, the idea creeps me out.
