The IMO was not what I was looking for. An explanation of what you see in the raw data to make that your opinion might be more useful.

My gage of shorting activities comes from watching heavily shorted stocks. A sample of brokers will tell you whether it is possible to get a borrow. If more brokers can get a borrow, it is a real time sign of covering and if less brokers get a borrow it is a sign of additional shorting. It is of limited use for the markets ingeneral cos most of the large caps are always easy to borrow.
