How come I think of the USSR and KGB and Nazis when I think of the new security systems and laws? I know we aren't allowed to think and share buyers definitely were mindless Zombies which is why they paid so much for shares in the boom, but I can't seem to help making mental associations.
Share buyers searched through years of Uncle Al's prognostications and simply HAD to buy shares because he finally realized that there actually is a productivity gain from new technology. Also, he didn't say "This is mad, raving irrational exuberance and people must not buy shares", he asked a rhetorical question on page 10 or so in a long speech about something which almost nobody read as shown by the fact that almost nobody knows what was said in even the widely misreported irrational exuberance bit. Since he didn't specifically prohibit share buying, Mindless Zombies had to go right on buying.
Americans have obviously become mindless Zombies and have now taken over where the USSR left off. Lines of expressionless people queue for hours to go on an aircraft. Any slight comment which the KGB doesn't like and it's into handcuffs, strip searched, body cavity probed and off to Siberia or Guantanamo Bay. Do not think. Do not speak.
Is it really that bad? Are there really queues at airports with humourless state security apparatchiks strip-searching computer-selected 8 year olds and grannies?
Don't they realize that there is not going to be another hijacking because everyone on the plane will go nuts and attack the guy [and let's be sexist and admit that other than a few wacko Moslem women, it's testosterone-polluted men who do nearly all the mayhem].
A few years ago I was flying on a passenger aircraft, amazed that the cockpit door was open and all I'd need to do was stand up, take a couple of steps and I'd be at the controls. Well, they've figured out that having wacko passengers with access to the driver's seat isn't all that good. Sure, bus drivers still have such a situation and buses don't have dead locks, but a bus is a bit different from a 747 full of hundreds of people.
I suppose they search the pilots because they don't know whether it's really a pilot or a terrorist in disguise with a stolen pass, or pretending to be a pilot, wearing a uniform, traveling on leave.
I suppose they keep it simple and just make sure that no guns, knives, bombs, nerve gas or biological agents in a shampoo bottle get through. Oh, that's a good idea. Take an aerosol on board with sarin [make sure to have a breathing mask]. Nobody would notice it being released, especially in the toilet into the air supply.
Sarin description: geocities.com
0.5 mg is fatal, so a gram of the stuff would be heaps! Take 10 grams on board in a perfume pack. That would do the trick.
Fortunately, the people who know how to make Sarin are probably not inclined to hand it over to wacko Moslems. So they probably would have trouble getting hold of it. But Saddam could probably get some chemists to make it and he'd ship it anywhere needed to defend himself against the planned attack on him personally.
What a MAD world.
