DELTATHREE ENABLES SIP-BASED SOFTWARE TO RECEIVE IN-BOUND PSTN [from news@convergedigest.com]
deltathree has enabled its SIP-based software client to receive inbound VoIP calls using a regular phone number, creating the possibility of using a broadband Internet connection as a residential IP-based phone line. The company's PCPhone 5.1 software enables customers to receive inbound calls to a regular US phone number assigned by deltathree, regardless of where in the world the call recipient may be at the time. For example, a customer with a New York City number could receive calls while working or traveling in Beijing, China, and New Yorkers calling that number would only pay local charges. If the customer is not online when a call is received, that call is automatically sent to voicemail. Messages can be retrieved from any telephone, or from the Web. deltathree plans to charge a flat monthly fee of $8.95 for an unlimited number of inbound calls, as well as voicemail. The company says the service will work with narrowband connections as well. deltathree offers a line of IP headphones, handsets and full-feature IP desk phones at prices ranging from $20 to over $1,000. iconnecthere.com deltathree, August 5, 2002
The deltathree software requires Windows 2000 or XP. Also, inbound calling does not work behind NAT firewalls.
Last month, deltathree hired investment banking firm Sokoloff & Company to assist in exploring its strategic alternatives, including a potential strategic alliance, joint venture, merger or acquisition. The company said it had no debt and approximately $25 million in cash and short-term investments as of the end of its most recently reported quarter, giving it approximately two years of operating capital on hand based on current cash usage. Nevertheless, deltathree said it is taking the action to broaden the market penetration of its SIP based communications services, increase its revenues and profitability.
