Alcatel Shanghai Bell Selects IDT's Telecom Products for Multiple Access and Optical Transport Applications
IDT Couples Highly Integrated Performance and Feature Set with Superior Applications Support to Provide Time to Market Advantages
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 6, 2002-- IDT (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.)(Nasdaq:IDTI - News), a leading communications IC company, announced today that its octal E1 line interface unit (LIU), 2Kx2K time slot interchange (TSI) switch, and quad CODEC have been chosen for several next-generation access and optical transport applications from Alcatel Shanghai Bell, China's leading telecom infrastructure and solutions provider. IDT's telecom products offered Alcatel Shanghai Bell's designers an excellent combination of integrated features, performance and programmability for voice processing, TDM switching and transport requirements in their new optical add/drop multiplexer (ADM), access network, and optical transmission system applications.
"We chose IDT's telecom products based on the delivery of their highly integrated performance and advanced feature set," said Peng Linmin, vice president of Alcatel Shanghai Bell. "In addition, IDT has been diligent in providing our team with local design and technical support, which has enabled us to achieve faster time to market and to further our leadership in China's telecommunications market."
Octal LIU Optimized for High-Density Voice Traffic
IDT's octal T1/E1 LIU, which supports loop attenuation of up to 18dB and integrates clock and data recovery, jitter attenuators, and enhanced diagnostic tools on-chip, is optimized for high-density tributary interfaces, such as those required in optical multiplexers. Each device supports eight independent T1/E1 links, providing an optimal port density for Alcatel Shanghai Bell's SDH155 ADM. The SDH155 ADM provides a scaleable solution to manage the addition and removal of narrowband voice traffic over SDH networks at speeds up to 155 Mbps.
Switching Devices Offer Lower Power Consumption
IDT's 2Kx2K TSI switches provide full non-blocking capacities for 2K DS-0 channels and pulse code modulation (PCM) rates up to 8 Mbps in Alcatel Shanghai Bell's General Access (GA) system, which supports aggregation of POTS, ISDN and lease-line traffic with integrated DS-0 servicing, for concentration onto an STM-1 link. The GA system improves the scalability of a service provider's access network by providing an aggregation point for last mile traffic onto an optical ring, star or point-to-point transmission network.
Voice-Processing Devices Capable of Matching Global Network Characteristic
IDT's quad CODEC delivers an advanced feature set and full programmability of the analog interface characteristics, allowing for easy adaptation of a single design into any country's phone network through software. Alcatel Shanghai Bell's OTS-8500 optical transmission system takes advantage of this programmability, allowing it to support analog voice traffic over various POTS networks with a single bill of materials. This increases the flexibility of the OTS-8500 in the network of a service provider by providing multi-service capability and legacy connectivity in a single platform for the transmission of voice and data traffic over optical backbones.
"IDT recognizes Alcatel Shanghai Bell as a leading provider of end-to-end telecom system solutions with a strong portfolio of products," said Jimmy Lee, vice president of IDT's telecommunications product division. "The incorporation of our telecom devices into Alcatel Shanghai Bell's applications strengthens our presence as a provider to the global telecommunications equipment market."
