Istanbul gold eases, encourages demand ISTANBUL, July 17 (Reuter) - Trade on the Istanbul gold exchange firmed to 1,708 kilos on Thursday from Wednesday's 1,403 kilos as prices eased encouraging demand, dealers said. Gold closed easier at $319.50 an ounce and 1,588,400 lira per gram, compared to $321.05 and 1,590,000 lira on Wednesday. The Turkish lira fell to 154,350 to the dollar versus Wednesday's 153,880 close, cushioning gold's price drop in lira terms. Almost all of the day's trade -- 1,678 kilos -- took place in the morning session, with 75.7 percent conducted in lira terms. |
