Actually, we did start this. We attacked Iraq, completely unprovoked.

It is actually not particularly important to this debate if that is true, because the official American position is that it is acceptable. When asked on US television whether the death of 500,000 Iraqi children as a result of sanctions was justified Madelaine Albright replied "I think this is a very hard choice, but the price - we think the price is worth it."

Regarding the number of Iraqi babies that have died because of our sanctions and because of the nuclear weapons we used during the Gulf War, we don't have an exact figure. There is a very good reason for that. It is because you and the American leadership do not care. UNICEF did a study in 1999, and came up with an estimate of a million deaths, half of them being children.
