Re: there's still little chance for Hammer to compete vs. Banias in mobile
What's the minimum and maximum power consumption expected for Banias? The only rumors I've seen, so far, have been reports of 25w as a minimum power for banias - too high for a thin and light. But for a purpose built mobile chip, Intel should be able to do better, so we'll have to see. Maybe banias will fit into the thin&light envelope after all. But the early hints are that it won't.
The power supply numbers we've seen for Hammer, if true, indicate a full voltage, full speed, max power consumption level on the order of 55w - fabulous, if true.
Thoroughbred is a 60w chip at full speed, full power, and 16w for thin and light applications.
A reduced voltage, reduced speed Hammer might fit in the 16w envelope.
It really sounds too good to be true, but that's what the (very limited) early indications are.
How well would a 25w, 32-bit banias chip do against a 16w, 64-bit Hammer? |
