Yes.. To an extent, the US has supported regimes where terror and torture has be utilized by the host regime.

Well, now that's interesting, Hawk. In Chile, they supported an overthrow of a duly elected government. No terror there. In Guatemala, ditto, the Arbenz government. I don't think you could make an argument that the Sandinistas used terror in Nicaragua but I will take it off the table less we get into an interminable debate.

Look at Nicaragua... The only reason the FSLN came into power was due to support from the middle/business class, and tacit support from Jimmie Carter, who didn't oppose the overthrow of Somoza. And the result was betrayal and exiling of those supporters in the business class, economic chaos, theft of private property, and FAR GREATER OPPRESSION than had been the case before.

Definitely wrong, but we would bring the thread to a halt if we dug around in this one. Let's not go there.

As for Guatemala and Chile, again, long debate. My point was that the US supported terror. The users of terror in each case were military dictators.
