Sorry FL.. Not trying to "pummel" differing opinions, but rather asking for something more of substance to support them.

After all, can you find even redeeming quality about Saddam Hussein that justifies the risk of leaving him in power and permitting him to continue his pursuit of WMDs???

Can anyone deny that he has ALREADY exhibited a psycho-pathic megalo-mania by pronouncing himself the next "Saladin", savior of the Arab people?

Is there not concrete evidence of his violating the terms of the Gulf War armistice and United Nations stipulations?

What could be worse, I have to ask... Professing fear of some unknown repercussions from overthrowing Saddam is no reason for doing nothing and permitting the PRESENT repercussions of not having overthrown him 12 years ago to continue.

I just believe that John is being intellectually dishonest for the sake of opposing MY opinion. The fact that he constantly uses the term "neocons" in a derogatory manner is no less deprecatory than anything I've stated.

We can have honest opinions about the efficacy of regime change in Iraq, but let's not be intellectually dishones and try and create the impression that Saddam is somehow "innocent" and not contributing to the financial and logistical support of terror groups in the middle east.

Did Saddam have fore-knowledge of 9/11? I'm not sure there is sufficient evidence of that. But does Saddam provide political, financial, and logistical support for groups operating under Al-Qaeda's "umbrella"... I believe there is compelling evidence for this.

The Iraqis claim they are willing to have UN "inspection teams" resume their operations. But then they turn around and proclaim them to be US spies the minute they disagree with the parameters of the inspection program:

Iraq Brands U.N. Arms Team Chief Blix as 'Spy'
Wed Aug 7, 7:48 AM ET

DUBAI (Reuters) - Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri has launched a stinging attack on chief U.N. arms inspector Hans Blix just days after Baghdad, facing threats of military action from the United States, invited the inspectors to resume talks.

In remarks published Wednesday, Sabri told the United Arab Emirates newspaper al-Bayan that Blix, a Swede, had caved in to "U.S. pressure and blackmail."

"Blix has inherited the same duties undertaken by the spy Butler, who used to project an authority exceeding that of the Security Council and the secretary-general," he said, referring to former chief U.N. arms inspector Richard Butler.

Baghdad has repeatedly accused Butler, an Australian, of acting as a spy for the United States and says any new inspections must not be a cover for U.S. espionage in Iraq.

Al-Bayan said it interviewed Sabri on the eve of Monday's U.N. meeting to study Iraq's invitation to talks in Baghdad to review suspected weapons of mass destruction programs.

U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan ( news - web sites) said after that meeting that Iraq must send a "formal invitation" for U.N. arms inspectors to return before further substantive talks.
