When I finally switched over from vinyl to CD in the mid to late 1980's, the first disc I bought was the White Album. I have always considered it the Beatles' most impressive work, coming from all different directions, as though they could have filled it with 100 songs in a dozen or more different styles and all would have been great.

The first time I heard A Day in the Life I was a kid. My older brothers were in college when I was in elementary school, and they had given a copy of the album to my sister for Christmas. She didn't like it much, but when I heard it I was hooked, even then. Even now, when that song comes on, I close my eyes and let it wash over me.
