Lars, is CrossOver Office based on WinE? And is it open source? And is there anything preventing Apple from porting it to OS X? If not, that may be what Apple is waiting for before releasing its OS X for x86. Imagine replacing Windows with OS X, on your old x86 machine, running all of your old software. Of course, new versions of MS Office would be carefully engineered to be incompatible with OS X, but old versions would continue to work.
