Brian, on you r profile you say this about your investing style:
"Buy at points of maximum pessimism and sell at points of maximum optimism. I am usually too soon on the former and too late on the latter."
Seems like a good theory if it is possible to do it. I certainly don't know where the bottom is in all of this but I have not heard one thing from AMAT leading up to their earnings next week that could be termed a "warning." You might recall the flurry of press releases from AMAT in July announcing new products and services. Nothing since then. You might recall Goldman Sachs astonishing announcement that the sector would not improve until AMAT "admitted to themselves" that the recovery was not here. I did not see AMAT run out and make such an admission. Perhaps their guidance next week will satisfy Goldman's wish. We will see. In the meantime, I am buying some AMAT this week. We might not be near "maximum pessimism" but it sure feels close.
Best regards,
Jeff
