Scott,

As you know, I agree with this post. But let me suggest some reading. I'm presently, rather slowly, working my way through Michael Oren's Six Days of War, about the June 67 ME war. It's written mostly from the Israeli perspective.

I'm not terribly high on the book, but one of the things he does well is get you inside what it must have been like to be in the Israeli leadership when they felt they were under attack from Egypt but dependent on LBJ's administration for help. It must have been maddening.

I recommend it because it is distant from this present conflict so the argument won't get overwhelmed by the high emotional levels of the moment. And because it helps to have an insider view.

The biggest problem with the book is that it's not written as either narrative or argument. Just one thing and then another, history. Hard to keep turning the pages. Unless this history absorbs you. Which I've learned it does not absorb me.

But, for the moment, keeping on, keeping on.
