| Yes, I do. I wish I still had the copy of "1984" I read as a youngster, just as a momento of a time when all stretched before me, and I had the time to read over and over again. I miss my old "How and Why" books from childhood, or the set of the "World's Greatest Literature" in which I first read excerpts of so many things I would later cherish. I miss the copy of Plato's Republic I used in college, with its occasional notes and underlinings. I am glad to still have the copy of "The Brother's Kramazov" I first read, in a kind of mania of appreciation in a three day period. I have read it several times now, but wonder will I ever get to it again, to see how it strikes me in middle age. Many of my books were bought second hand, and in paperback, on tight budgets, and show subsequent use, so I do not have a "pretty" library, but it is extensive, and useful when I need to look up something, at least....... |
