It was not an arbitrary point
Of course not arbitary, it was a decidely partisan point. Scalia just watched for the a point that was in Jr's favor to jump in. What was the SCOTUS doing in a state matter anyway? Scalia has no reason to step in between the state, the electorial college, and the congress anyway. He obviously jumped in when he could twist the results for his guy.
