I liked the piece as well. Imo Steyn is wrong about Iran though. Social and economic conditions have deteriorated to such an extent that even with Tienanmen type repression the country will implode. There will be NO 20 year wait in Iran. If the Mullahs do do another Tienanmen they will only make "The Axis of Evil" a truism and not a subject for debate. Imo the EU better think long and hard about doing "business as usual" in Iran. David Warren has also picked on Iran, if you get the time read them, I think you'll find them worthwhile. BTW if Friedman gets around to reporting/commenting on Iran again I'll post his stuff too. Ditto Elaine Sciolino.
