I have high confidence in Oliver Valente to have done the job of building out a nationwide network in top notch fashion and things can only get better when cdma2000 Release A is layered on sometime next year. It appears that the initial devices and services they are offering will suit a variety of tastes and needs for both the mass consumer and the corporate traveler and can only get better over time. it will be interesting to see how aggressively they promote this initially for the consumer market. Rolling thunder with a real push starting close to Thanksgiving might be the wisest move, but I imagine the corporate push is starting now. Wireless data is a technology push. The more carriers that push it, and push it aggressively the better. << What do you think of the pricing plans in general? >> Pricey! <g> This will work its way out over time. It is about what I expected. << Is laptop/pda unlimited use for $99.99 attractive? >> For the corporate user that needs wireless portability and reasonable speeds it is not all bad. Actually with data acceleration this promises more than adequate speed for chores like server reconciliation. It promises to be faster than what a road warrior currently achieves from a pay phone with data port or a hotel room. Hopefully the security angle for accessing corporate intranets and servers is covered. (Is it really unlimited?) Not sure. Real question may be is it really nationwide? PCS coverage is a bit thin outside metros in many cases which is why I can't use them for voice. << Exciting or letdown? >> I think its exciting. I don't expect necessarily an overnight wireless data revolution, and in fact I don't know exactly what to expect. I think it will be gradual, but the US may surprise a lot of people. Hopefully for my purposes this will get Verizon off their duff. It should also force AWS, Cingular, VoiceStream to accelerate both infra spending and content and services.
