I hope your son-in-law is right too. I also agree with you relative to the hope for a buyout. If you look at Discreet Logic's recent moves (specifically purchasing D-Vision), I think that a buy-out by Discreet is a possibility because they'd want uninterrupted and possibly exclusive access to TRUV's boards.
