Don't disagree with anything you stated Bilow, except action against Iraq..

But it's amazing just how long desperate regimes can retain power through use of repression and terror. They are jailing students now in Iran, but what happens when they decide to shoot them?

Just look at the Taliban, and how they used foreigners to enforce their regime.

But Iraq is different situation, IMO. It's ruled by someone who holds power through the exercise of total fear within his society. We've managed to "contain" him for the past 12 years, but there's no guarantee that will be the case should he develop and produce a number of nuclear devices. Once he has them, he'll likely seek to extend his power from behind that nuclear shield, intimidating neighboring states to fall in line behind him.

That's why he's so dangerous. He's relied upon the use of brutal force to preserve and expand his power. He, like Stalin and Hitler, only understand counter-force, and will take any appeasement of his actions as a sign of weakness.
