Reminds me of the old silver straddles that were used near year end to dodge taxes.

If you had a gain to hide, you would box a large position in silver futures in December, and then close out the losing side on the last settlement day of the year to book the loss. You could use a lot of instruments as a vehicle for doing this but silver was the most popular.

Half the people on WS would not see anything wrong in doing something like this, even if Uncle Sam does
