Yes, it's a different story. What was the obligation of the friend, to see him home? Or what? I was thinking this analogous to having a friend drive you home from the hospital. I've been in that situation many times both as the driver and the drivee. Whenever you have a procedure that requires sedation, they won't let you leave without a responsible person to drive you home. One time I arranged for a friend to leave work for a bit to take me home but planned to get there by taxi. The taxi didn't show and I ended up having to drive over. When I was picked up, there was some discussion about her just taking me to my car, which I felt able to drive, and then following me home to be sure I wasn't driving erratically. It was either that or drive me back to the hospital later to pick up my car. We ended up doing the latter. The hospital is only about three miles away and she was free to make the second trip. Had we done the former, though, I wonder now about her responsibility or liability. I have plans for lunch and need to start getting ready now. Be back later.
