I was out of the office today, and have not yet seen the report.
However, Lucent's purchase of Octel is probably what caused the
selloff in DLGC today. Competition is begining to heat up. This
aquisition will pressure DLGC to consolodate its DM3 offering. They
must execute on this initiative. I strongly believe they will. Also,
I will be on the conference call in the morning and will review it in
detail with the board in the evening. John raised a good question on
the COMS Siemens Joint CTI venture. These products will start ramping
in 12 months. I follow COMS by virtue of owning CSCO and will keep a
faithful eye on their VOIP progress.

Also, INTC & MSFT had solid seasonally slow reports which confirm
that the 32 bit product cycle is alive and well. NT 4.0 server grew
100% YOY. We follow several small tools vendors that are telling
their major UNIX clients that 80%+ of future developement dollars are
going to NT 5.0 with wolf pack clustering. Also, we have heard from a
unknown source that INTC has qualified a .25 micron 450 MHZ chip in
its advanced R&D lab. I don't want to spread mis-information, but if
this is true this will be the death nail in many UNIX offerings from
the stand point of price/MIPS even prior to the 64 bit Merced chip
which is on schedual to ramp in production in 1999.

MARKET OBSERVATION: Dow 8,000 is going to be around for a while
,because it is being vindicated by the rally in the OTC. We have been
seeing very solid progress on the corporate earnings front which
should continue to support the current 19X P/E on the S&P 500.
This valuation is not unreasonable given the 1.5 billion new entrants
into the global labor supply(china&USSR). The global market is just
beginning to evolve, and the US is in the best position to compete
globally than any other country IMO. The companies we discuss on this
board are anecdotal evidence supporting my conjecture.

This is truely an information revolution, and there is a huge capital
spending cycle ahead of us the next 5 years in telecom equipment. The
market potential is like nothing I have ever witnessed. However, it
will take patience to exploit the bleeding edge applications like
CTI;fibre channel;ATM;Sonet;XDSL;digital wireless;etc.

Happy Investing,

Jay
