Chris, normally no! I just don't see any reason to gamble with less-than-fundamentally sound stocks. I'd rather play a stock that has a history of good earnings, even if they are running into a bit of a what I feel is a temporary snag.
There are so many good stocks that seem to tank or have tanked way more than is warranted.

What has made my strategy really effective in this Market, I think, is that even very good quality companies sometimes get dragged down and "over-tanked in this "Sell First - Think Later" market. So, they are a gift if you can get in at a compelling and relatively "Safe" price.

When you have a quality company with a history of performance, they are the "Safer" plays. Good fundamentals always underpin the stock price, but those with negative PE's won't. Even ACF, because they have an incredible earnings growth history and have made it through periods before where everybody seemed worried.

It's all about REWARD to RISK ratio. And while PALM has fairly high reward, it has a very high risk too. In short, I would really have to pile through their Filings and Cash flow statements, examine debt, etc. LU or SUNW are a couple people like but I have to really be convinced on those unless it is just with "fun" money. Maybe they'd be better when the Market is definitely in a serious rally mode next year?
