The "theirs" and "mine" mentality has not provably improved the mean standard of living for humanity. I am a free agent -- not unionized. I don't need to because I'm in demand. However, if I'm not in demand -- I'm not treated all that well. You apparently have missed the experience of being a menial worker. Not everyone has had the advantages (and luxury) of having lived in a house with heat. Good light. Educational encouragement. Relative safety. I sure see why a lot of people want to be here. Especially those who are already on the "island".
