Aon said it nixed a spinoff of its Combined Specialty Group, which comprises its insurance underwriting operations.

"We have decided that current market conditions are simply not conducive to raising equity capital at this time," Ryan said in a statement.

Aon is instead mulling a sale of all or part of Combined Specialty, and a possible spinoff of a piece of the business.
