re: Replacement Sales in Finland

... could bode well for other markets.

* second consecutive month of growing sales. In June deliveries grew 36 percent from the year before.

* Customers have actually been waiting for new models and they are buying models with GPRS connectivity and color screen. This seems to support the expectations that color screen handsets will create a new cellular sales boom.

* The Wholesale Dealers Of Electronics expect that fully 80 percent of handsets sold during the rest of the year will support GPRS.

Mobile phone manufacturers in July delivered 32 percent more handset to retail stores than in July 2001. According to figures released by The Wholesale Dealers Of Electronics 110 700 mobile phones were sent to retail channel. The lot is valued at EUR 19,1 million.

This was the second consecutive month of growing sales. In June deliveries grew 36 percent from the year before.

Much of activity comes from replacement sales. Customers have actually been waiting for new models and they are buying models with GPRS connectivity and color screen. This seems to support the expectations that color screen handsets will create a new cellular sales boom. The Wholesale Dealers Of Electronics expect that fully 80 percent of handsets sold during the rest of the year will support GPRS.

The first half of the year saw sales staying at the same level as year before even if the monthly variation were rather larger. The Wholesalers association is prepared to up its forecast for sales figures for the year if the August numbers show an increase over last year. Traditionally the fall is fairly quiet in mobile markets but the speed picks up in November and December. The forecast for this year stands at 1.2 million handsets. In 2001 Finns bought 1.1 million cellular phones. <<
