Everyone thinks the earth's core is super heavy metals from the pressure of the superabundant overburden. But in fact at the earth;s core there is zero gravity. This is because there is equal mass and subsequent gravitational pull in all directions. Thus the gravitational pull decreases towards the centre and the centre may all be gas, or light material. It may even be hollow. If you don't believe this, just work out the calculus field equations for a sphere. Pull is as one-over-the-square-of-the-distance, times the total mass at that distance. Maxima of mass times inverse square distance, therefore, would be at two places inside the sphere, one at 1/3 the depth towards the centre and one at 1/3 the distance from the centre.

This is probably why diamonds, a light material, form at depth of about 150 miles beneath the surface. They mix with heavy materials that will not sink further because the net pressure is greater upwards than downwards.
