Haqi,

The installer that told you that needs to go back to school. I would never spread anything in the channels. I learned from a good "teacher". My dad has been installing and repairing garage doors since 1954. He is 76 now and although he does not install doors, he still maintains many and he still installs electric openers. A little oil on the rollers, cable or spring shaft bearings or bushings, lightly on the hinges, will pretty much take care of it. We used to also lightly oil the springs when it was a torsion spring door, just to alleviate any binding up problems.
