if you've got an example of a place that the US invaded, with guns blazing and bombs dropping, where the
locals welcomed the US "with open arms", do share.

Ummm. Ok. Iraq!

Iraq was definitely invaded, bombed, strafed, and the bulk of it's army crushed. The 24th mech got pretty far north as I recall. The Iraqi people rose in revolt and celebrated the US victory. Saddam lost control in all but two Iraqi provinces. To suggest this revolt took place due to disatisfaction with the invasion of Kuwait is not credible. They rose in revolt because they utterly despised the brutal, oppressive, and dictatorial regime of Saddam Hussein.
