Sure, and I do not think popular appeal is the correct yardstick. I think that the community of connoisseurs is the more reliable place to start, with argument and revision over time. I am just suggesting that the most important thing to assess, as the times a- change, is the "art part", the qualities of melodic invention, chromatic elaboration, lyric expression, and so on, that make up the work itself.......
