Each period explains the purpose or point of each of the others. Thus, we have a multi-triangulated view regarding the special emphasis that a criminals death establishes resolution to the social dilemma faced by society, the treatment/punishment of the perpetrator, reconciliation of the offending/offended parties, any debt or restitution, animous of circumstances, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.
In other words it is a done deal, finito, kaputt, over, final.
One period does not seem to be sufficient to emphasize that it is a single stopping point, there is no benefit or loss analysis necessary. The death penalty accomplishes nothing of purpose. It is a humbling realization that humans and human societies are limited in their abilities to deal with their circumstance and that some situations are irresolvable in this life time. Definitely requires five. Six would be going over board. Only extremists would use six. |
