I didn't assume you'd never lost at trading but that you were still in the phase where you are making money trading. Correct me if I'm wrong there. Are you still in the losing phase of trading or are you currently winning? Sometimes people take numerous trips to the dump before they fully realize the negative expected return associated with trading. It took the thread creator here quite a few trips up and down the roller coaster before he came to the conclusion that the sanest thing to do was to give it up, but then that was because he was very good at it. The thing is, very few people come to that conclusion when they are in the winning phase, almost no one quits while they are ahead.

Now please understand, when I say traders, I'm referring to short term public traders, not market makers. MMs have the opposite side of the public action which gives them a positive expected return. Investing also has a positive expected return.

I think if most people were open here on SI about their trading returns over the last few years you'd see that most are slowly going bust and its not just because they only play the long side. I watched an entire room full of former MMs slowly go broke playing both short and long. Just look at how many people are just simply not around on SI anymore. I don't think they retired early.
