Pulse Covers 95% of Industry Standard RJ-45 Connector Products with the Addition of Seven PulseJack Platforms
PulseJack(TM) Connector Line Now Supports Full Spectrum of Industry Requirements With 12 Platforms and More Than 100 Different Off-The-Shelf Models
biz.yahoo.com
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 13, 2002-- Pulse, a Technitrol (NYSE:TNL) Company, announced the addition of seven new platforms to its existing successful PulseJack(TM) integrated connector modules (ICM) product line, including 1XN and 2XN 10/100/1000Base-TX platforms with integrated LEDs for the high-end server market.

Already the industry preferred supplier of discrete magnetics, Pulse's connector range is now the most comprehensive on the market, able to provide 95% of industry standard RJ-45 connector platforms with integrated connector modules.

The seven new platforms double the number of PulseJack connectors offered by Pulse, allowing customers to select a single supplier for all magnetic needs in LAN applications, but also in broadband, DSL, telecom, power, automotive and defense.

The RJ-45 connector modules are for virtually all Internet and LAN interface devices including high-end servers, gaming platforms, network interface cards (NICs), LAN-on-motherboard (LOM) PCs, and asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) interface cards, hubs, switches and routers for small office/home office (SOHO) uses.

Currently controlling more than 55% of the world's discrete LAN magnetics market, and as one of the largest suppliers of ICMs, Pulse aims to migrate both demand and production from discrete LAN magnetics toward ICMs. PulseJack ICMs reduce costs for manufacturers and hold several advantages over discrete LAN magnetics, offering a reduced form factor PCB, better EMI performance and improved logistics.

An eight port (2X4 or 1X8) ICM for example, reduces the PCB component count from 56 to one, allowing manufacturers to reduce the number of vendors and increase manufacturing throughput.

PulseJack connector range now offers more than 100 off-the-shelf connector models, plus several surface mount technology (SMT) configurations and special combo units incorporating two USB ports. The Gigabit 1XN and 2XN series offer superior performance for CAT 5 and 6 fast Ethernet cable connections. They incorporate hybrid circuitry to support simultaneous transmission and reception at a minimum rate of 250Mbps/pair, which meets or exceeds IEEE 802.3ab standards.

Technical Information

Featuring up to 16 RJ-45 ports, the PulseJack line offers a variety of options including: LED colors/types, data rates, turns ratios, shielding, pin-outs and tab-up/tab-down configurations. Shields are available with or without EMI tabs. The new series offers single and multiple-line port connectors, up to 2X8 for both 10/100Base-TX and 10/100/1000Base-TX operation.

All PulseJack connectors meet or exceed IEEE 802.3 and ANSI X3.263 standards. They are thoroughly tested to deliver a minimum of 1,500 Vrms hipot isolation. The USB combo models meet both USB 2.0 standards and CAT 5 and 6 Fast Ethernet performance standards. Standard operating temperatures range from 0 degrees Celsius to 70 degrees Celsius. The SMT PulseJack connectors are able to withstand temperatures to 235 degrees Celsius during IR-reflow soldering processes and are available in trays for automated pick-and-place manufacturing processes.

Pricing and Availability

High volume (greater than 1 million units) prices start from $1 per port for a fully integrated RJ-45 connector module. Price depends on platform style; variants include LED color/type, data rate, turns ratios, shielding, and pin-out options. Lead time is six to eight weeks. Contact Pulse directly for samples and volume pricing. For detailed information on the series, refer to the Filtered Connectors Selection Matrix, located on the Pulse Web site at pulseeng.com.
