to the political costs of using such Israeli-like tactics

Could you maybe clarify those costs?

Do you mean that Brussels will get in a snit, and the French will denounce us, and China will accuse us of human rights violations? That the liberals in the media will froth at the mouth?

If that's the kind of thing you're worried about, then you don't have the stomach for war.

Which is fine, not everybody does. There are those who are firmly convinced that non-violence is the best course of action, no matter what.

But in war, people get killed. Civilians get killed as well as combatants (not uncommonly more civilians than combatants), and typically a large percentage of combatants are killed by so-called "friendly fire."

The only real cost that matters is human cost. A siege would not be a bad idea, with the proviso that any non-combatants that want out should be allowed to leave.
