I see from the news item that it was a problem in the Missouri Synod, which is the most conservative Lutheran group in the country, and that I was mistaken about it involving the sacrament of communion. Interestingly, the Synod permits inter- faith prayer events, in certain contexts, but had a long standing rule against them until recently. Also interesting is that the president of the Synod okayed the participation, while a second vice- president took it upon himself to discipline the pastor, leading to his ouster from a radio program. In other words, the matter is controversial within the denomination.......
