This was a very famous speech in British politics. 53000 immigrants a year is a big number in the NZ context. Imagine 4 million immigrants a year in the US... I wonder how many NZers are leaving? A lot of immigrants might not stay but then move to the Land of Oz as Kiwis.

I just specified the allocation of my retirement fund contributions. 50% to the TIAA-CREF Social Choice Fund (equities and bonds with some screening for nasties that seems to raise the rate of return). 25% to their "Global Equities' and 25% to their "Real Estate". Hedging on the hope of upside and fear of downside respectively :) Sorry, no precious metal funds...The other option of manager was Fidelity but it was just too confusing though one of their funds "Contrafund" (apparently nothing to do with Bush snr and Nicaragua :)) seems to be good.
