Frankly I wouldn't care if Junior were in charge, even if he were an "amiable dunce", as they say.
The problem is the trip towards an all-powerful central government has suddenly picked up steam. It was bad enough when Clinton allowed the Terrorism bills re FEMA. Now it's gotten completely out of control, with invisible enemies, proposals for neighborhood spies, and a lot more being worked on in the backroom labs and "undisclosed locations".
It's clear the culture of death, fear and violence being used for political purposes by an encroaching government, with all powers imaginable now available, including lists of everyone and everything coordinated in the OHD, secrecy allowed for unlimited detention, and cyberinformation programs to track people and sentiments.
Unfortunately, as an engineer I am familiar enough with the possibilities 20 years ago to know what the capabilities are today, and none of the Constitutional protections against government exist in any real sense anymore. Sure we can go on a wartime footing and protect against "terrorists", but I'm having my doubts as to the true nature of these reports, when the priority of this administration is secrecy and absolute autocratic authority to grab and dispose anyone, anywhere, for any reason.
The benefits and power are enormous and irresistable to those in charge.
Of all the pernicious offenses, secrecy is the worst.
Like the Founders, I have a great distrust of government.
Most especially one that says:"Trust me!" |
