Such an insightful observation and proffer... LOL IBM and HP are both announcing major efforts to woo solaris on sparc customers to linux on commodity intel and their own systems.
Included in the effort are groups to give quick port assistance to linux.

Speaking of porting to linux. I'd guess no application written to run on a sparc system would take longer the 10 minutes to compile on a 1.8 gig intel processor. I'd figure at worse most of the time about 10 compiles would be needed to complete the port.

I would not touch sunw. I wonder if sunw is like Wang or Dec in technology space.
