The EMP thing made a recent cinematic cameo of sorts in "Ocean's Eleven". They had a non-explosive version, but it looked like a coil anyway. It miraculously caused a 30-second blackout of Las Vegas without much else in way of collateral damage. From a somewhat less impeachable source: aps.org .
