JC's top ten reasons for not expensing options:

10. It can't be done.
9. We are already doing it so it does not matter.
8. It is bad for tech stocks to look unprofitable so we need to be able to play games with our books.
7. My board would never approve my stock option plan if they realize it is a huge expense.
6. I would not be able to make a killing in the market selling csco stock (which I can do now even if the company is losing money).
5. Tech stock valuations would go down -- accounting rules should not allow that to happen -- ever. Its the principle of the thing. This is America.
4. The things we report in our financial statements are not real -- so why worry about reality now?
3. None us guys in techland like it and we are going to stick together.
2. I share some of my "unearned income" with politicians and expect to get my money's worth.
1. I would have to earn a living -- that would be punitive.
