...some religions are better than others...

Neatly and aptly said. When discussing religions on the threads we get bogged down in two respects: (1) firing scripture excerpts back and forth, and (2) citing examples of religious atrocities that occurred centuries or millennia ago. The first is a useless exercise when excerpts come from 1000s of scripture pages that none of us has complete mastery over, and the second is irrelevant to the contemporary world.

In my humble opinion, the best measure of a particular religion's worth is the effect that it has on its adherents ... something that we are able to observe and discern. My dissatisfaction with Islam and the Koran is its obvious spawning of violence, hatred, intolerance, and the suppression of women. On the other hand, I perceive Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism as religions that inspire peacefulness, kindness, and good works.

As superficial as my view might appear, I think we get a better and truer picture by looking at forests rather than individual trees one at a time.
