Arab diplomatic sources said the Fatah offensive was ordered by Arafat. They said the United States had for months pressed Lebanon to eliminate suspected Al Qaida strongholds in Ein Hilwe and did not rule out that the Fatah attack was coordinated with Washington.

That's very odd. Why should Fatah fight Al Qaeda now, when Arafat has sided with Al Qaeda in all but name?

Still, another point for debka's reporting. They were the only source saying for months now that Al Qaeda fighters were collecting in Lebanon thanks to the good offices of Imad Mugnieh.
